Among the aims set forth in our congregational mission statement is the goal of "ministering to the needs of "residents in the community and promoting peace and justice in the world." First Presbyterian Church supports both local and world-wide missions. Toward those ends, we provide various kinds of support at home and abroad. Our goal is to devote a tithe (10%) of our income received from pledges, along with other expressions of partnership and support, to these and other mission and outreach projects. Jesus Cares at Exit 0 is a faith-based initiative which has been serving the Southern Indiana area since 2008. "Exit 0", as it is usually known as locally, provides basic human needs and meals to the homeless population in the Jeffersonville, Indiana area. Camp Pyoca is supported by 1st Prez through donations of money and time. Several times throughout the year volunteers from 1st Prez work as camp leaders and work on the maintenance and grounds crews. Hope Chest provides support for local missions by collecting items organizations need which are donated by members of our congregation. A different organization is supported each month including those that help the homeless and those in need who live in our geographical area. Some of the organizations we assist include: Catalyst Resuce Mission homeless shelter, Center for Lay Ministries food pantry, the Community Kitchen, Childplace Family Services, the Clark County Youth Shelter, Community Presbyterian Church D.I.A.P.E.R. Project, and Bliss House. "1st Prez" Clothing Drive is an on-going mission within the church collecting cold-weather supplies such as coats, sweaters, sweat shirts, sleepingf bags and other warm clothing for the homeless who live in the Jeffersonville, Indiana area. Each fall we distribute the supplies collected throughout the year on a first-come first-served basis. Repair Affair is held every year in the month of June where members of 1st Prez gather with other churches and organizations to repair homes in the Clark and Floyd counties area owned by the elderly. Some of the work we perform includes lawn mowing, weeding flower beds, mulching, interior painting, and cleaning gutters. We have been known also to paint and repair outdoor decks if needed.
